@ajmrowland the silly symphonies ended in 1939 actually, the last one was "the ugly duckling" (good ending for the ss). but in 1943, disney began the series again except they renamed them "special cartoons". i consider ferdinand the bull a silly symphony and the other ones too, evn though there not labled them they still are at heart :)

the music is similar to peter pan... its funny that this began work as snowbabies, in 1936, then it was shelved because it had no plot and it's original writer, walt kelly, couldnt think of anything, i have a sketch from snowbabies. then rudy ising came and looked at the vaults and fixed up snowbabies and renamed it merbabies and most of snowbabies ideas were trransfered here.

it really is crazy how everytime i go to disney world i get that funny feeling of nostalgia, and the kid in me literally wants to just burst out. everything about the parks from their cleanliness, to the way everything is taken into such extreme detail just makes it that much more enjoyable. everyone there is extremely nice and curteous. i love everything about disney, and can't wait untill i had kids to bring them there for their first time and see the look on their faces. god bless all!

This cartoon is practically unwatchable... It's well animated but a lot can be said about Walt's tastes (or lack thereof). Everything is so rosy cheeked and cutesy. ThThis cartoon takes it to cringeworthy extremes. I feel weird just watching, and I feel bad for all the animators who got stuck making this. It's astounding that this style of cartoon making caught on! The Fleischers completely changed their style because of what Disney was doing! Thank god there was still Avery, Jones and Clampett

I think only some of Walt's ideas are portrayed in the EPCOT we all know and love. I dont think it covers the whole "city of the future" idea he had. If Walt was still alive I don't think he would be very pleased with the EPCOT we have today, because I dont think it captures his ideas. Even though I love today's EPCOT and wouldn't change a thing, I would have loved to see Walt's EPCOT.

its so sad :( walt truly was a genius. his plans and ideas for this experimental prototype community of tomorrow really was amazing. as a former community planning and development/ architecture major in college, i see so many little things that a lot of people dont see. its incredible. he truly thought of everything imaginable. and he actually cared about everything, arts, sciences, sports, and he showcases huge things to help buildup each one of those things. :'( walt u will forever be missed!

funny how the people mover was supposed to be used for moving people all around the city, and it only ended up being used as a small attraction at Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. This was the very first show I saw on a color TV. It was 1962 and my parents took me to a wealthy family's house with an RCA color TV set. It blew me away to see a show that I had already seen in Black & White at home. A year or two later I saw The Wizard of Oz in color. My parents finally got a tabletop color TV in 1970. For the first week we would watch just about anything if it were in color.

We never had this in Australia .. they took bits of this opening and edited it into a title called 'Walt Disney's Disneyland'. I think it was because Australia didn't get colour TV until 1975, so the 'Wonderful World of Color' shown in B&W would have been a bit strange.

this was one of the first variety sponsored shows in color. The old indian head and cross patterns had been replaced with the peacock and other icons. The content of these shows was a mix of nature presentations with a charming narrator, classic donald duck or other cartoons specifically made for this show, and adverts featuring five minutes of description and clips from upcoming disney features. It was quite well produced. I was a kid then, and did not know the realities that I do today.

This was Disney's first use of the Xerography process. It was in it's experimental stage. Much of the animation in this film was later used in Hathi's scenes in 1967's "The Jungle Book". Woolie Reitherman directed Goliath as well as Jungle Book., hence the obvious similarities and reused animation.

It should be mentioned that Peet was also responsible for The Jungle Book. According to the recent DVD Peet's story was closer to Rudyard Kiplings original but Walt felt it was too dark. An argument lead to Peet's departure and the whole production was rewritten and rescored. Bill Peet would go on to do a series of successful children books in the 60's and 70's

I designed a radial city before I heard of the idea, with a road system numbered based on their degree, like "145th". Several circular monorails would make one within walking distance at all times, and the dense interior's transportation would be primarily walking and bicycles/segway type vehicles. Now, to make this happen for real would require more entrepreneurs like Disney. It's just a shame he stopped at just an amusement park. I'd love to actually LIVE in this type of city plan.

Walt was going to build Disnet World in Livingston Parish in Louisiana, but word leaked out he was buying land south of Denham Springs and many of the political types ran in and bought the land form under him to get him to pay a higher price for the land (that was in 1963/4).
