They are equally great. Depends on what you're looking for. Rhodes has an entire circumwalled medieval capital and ancient greek sites. Crete has bigger cities, hiking spots and a marvellous pre-greek archeological site called Cnossos. They both have nightlife but Crete naturally has more clubs.

Thing is, it sounds ok played soft but hit a real rhodes hard and it is gut wrenching, hit a nord hard and it just does nothing. I have had 3 rhodes over the years, the touch on the nord is also way off the mark, it is a sloppy action. Check out "Menage A Trios" by the Yellow Jackets to hear how a real Dyno Rhodes sounds, tine slam and everything!

Notice how the keys, when released, bounce repeatedly on the Rhodes. A sluggish, rubbery feel. When it comes to playing "piano" music well--which includes all the dynamic-sensitive key instruments: piano, electric piano, and clavinet--the importance of a responsive "action" is important, NOT just the sound. A real clavinet, even a Hammond and most synth keyboards have a much quicker key rebound, less fatiguing. The Rhodes is a pain to play.

How else can you put it into words... the Rhodes has a soul, the Nord doesn't! Nord is still a pretty sick piece of gear, it's an ultimate gigging tool. I don't carry my massive Fender Twin to every gig, sometimes my little solid state Fender amp can cut it. Same deal, no soul, but same sound! How else to do explain it!

One thing the Electro can't do is stage presence. It's ugly and small. A Rhodes or Hammond is big and beautiful. So big, it takes a whole truck just to move the keyboard player's rig. So beautiful, that when you snap a key off the Hammond while loading it on to the truck, you almost cry like baby in the parking lot of the dive bar you just played in. They look so cool on stage, though, and as good as the digi stuff sounds, the real deal is better, every time.

in terms of expense its about 7000 fior a rhodes which has an amazing tone but the nord costs bowt 4500 for multi emulation. Obviously not gonna be as good as the original but for us broke asses paying 4500 and getting a hammond, clav, rhodes, piano, and extras is definitly the way to go. just bought an electro 3 the other day and it's definitly my favourite keyboard at da mo.

I have a Rhodes built in about the same era. They were gluing the felt on the backs of the hammers at that time. I had to take the felt off the back of the hammers and glue new felt on the back of the keys then impregnate the felt with teflon. It made a world of difference in the way it plays. A Rhodes tech told me to do that.

When Vince Jr brought in Dusty in the 90s Dust was near retirement, his best days physically were long over. Vince brought him in to give Dust a final hoorah and a good bonus to his retirement fund. @spanglehoff What are you talking about? I think some people tend to forget that the WWF/WWE was not always the biggest game in town. In fact during the 70s they were just another territory. Dusty on the other hand had already held the most prestigious title at the time (the NWA world title) and was fairly well known to wrestling fans all over the world. Anyway the most over wrestler in the UK during the 80s was Big Daddy, and he makes Dusty look like Ricky Steamboat in comparison.

He gets pretty low when he sings "the people that have walked in darkness have seen a great light." I used to listen to Messiah every day and know it all by heart. I have favorites but when I hear this I can see myself and everyone else coming out of their graves. It is the most powerful music and I think he has an amazing voice. We bought the DVD of this group, which is terriffic. They are just amazing to see and hear. Interviews also. Very cohesive group.

But I've discussed them with others who did hear them both, and they all said Ramey's voice is large and powerful, but Hines' was HUGE:). He had been singing for about an hour so I knew the size of the voice, but when he hit the first note of Olin Blitch's Prayer of Repentence, I still literally jumped about a foot out of my chair. Regretably I never heard Hines live. If his voice was larger than Ramey's, it must have been something to hear...beautiful tone too.

But Jerome Hines' are a very close second. Hines' voice was simply ENORMOUS, much larger than Ramey's rather sizable instrument. And although Ramey's voice was more limpid, Hines had ample flexibility for the runs, not to mention his sheer power and magisterial timbre:) --

The flexibility and sheer speed of the runs are all breathtaking, not to mention the startlingly effective two-octave range that Sam reveals in "The Trumpet Shall Sound." @bassfanne45 Just one more point, my friend: As a sizeable and dark-timbred but lyric baritone some 25 years ago, I studied the "Messiah" bass arias and even performed "The Trumpet Shall Sound" in concert. My technique back then was pretty decent. But I can't begin to describe the sheer DIFFICULTY of this great aria. It challenges one's breath control continually, and the range is quite wide for both baritones and basses. So I can't help LOVING good renditions of this piece:) --

What I got out of this interview was great information on the Fairlight from somebody who knew and played it well. Nick Rhodes is an intelligent synth player and I think of him as a pioneer in many ways. He inspired other artists to do new things with keyboard technology. I consider myself sort of a badass when it comes to oxtails. If i may say so. I don't however take the fat off, I brown them as is and braise in beef stock and aromatics, for soups. Obviously for a spaghetti sauce they get browned then some tomato paste added before hitting the sauce for a good 3-4.5 hr.simmer. Browning the paste is key.. ;-)

I was in Lindos in 2005 and really enjoyed my stay there. It was really hot and sunny throughout my stay. It has some nice restaurants and the food was great. I also enjoyed the boat trip that took us around the Lindos coast.
